Welcome to the New Strong Brain!

Happy New Year! And welcome to the new Strong Brain: New Year, New Strong Brain!

We’ve rebuilt almost all of the inside of the site, as well as parts of the visible outside. Probably the most visible change is the background color: the default is now white, but unlike the old version, you can select your personal background color setting on the Account page.

There’s a new Number Play task: Number Sequences. You are presented with four integers from a sequence, and you must infer the 5th. The sequences include arithmetic, geometric, and recursive sequences. We are also working on a related visual pattern sequences task which will be ready soon.

In the Reading area, the number of authors and selections have each been more than doubled. We now have 25 authors and 560 selections, and this is expected to keep growing. We welcome suggestions of works in the public domain or with Creative Commons licenses that we can add.

The crossword puzzle layouts have been improved and there is a better calendar-based method for selecting archived daily puzzles to work. The calendar shows the puzzles you have previously worked by boxing the puzzle date and printing it in green.

And of course, this blog is a new addition to the site. Items will be posted from time to time, ranging over topics related to mental agility, reviews of related books and postings, and announcements of changes to the Strong Brain site.

The major motivation for the (rather lengthy) rebuild of the site was to escape the rather rigid structure of the previous version and to be able to take advantage of the more flexible technologies that have appeared in recent years. This should allow us to add new features and improve old ones much more easily going forward.

Enjoy!

I especially like your picture puzzles. Could there be a way to do puzzles with my own images?

I think this will be interesting. I’ll try to keep working out every couple of days.
